What to do after purchasing a Minecraft server Print

Here's a good place to start for once you have bought your first Minecraft server. We'll share some methods and processes you might want to get done in order to get started with your Minecraft server here at Game Server 24. These will help you minimize errors in your Server, while also setting it up for the specific task you'll be using it for, whether it be for SMPs or whatever you need.

Startup

1. Head to your Game Panel, and get to the Startup tab.

2. Here you'll see what your Minecraft is running on, which version, and which .jar file it is pinpointed to use. So as an example, I want to run my test server on Minecraft 1.21.1, and I have the server.jar in my Files. Meaning when clicking Start on my server, it will now run my server.jar file to open a server with the version 1.21.1.

3. Build Number refers to Paper versions of Minecraft, it is recommended to always have this on latest for optimal performance. Also, if possible for you, always use the latest Docker Image, currently that would be Java 21.

Changing your server.properties file to support what you'll be using the Server for

1. Within your Game Panel, head to Files.

2. Open your server.properties file, it should appear on the first page.

3. In this file, you can change some of these following settings:

hardcore=false (if you'd like your server to have permanent deaths, turn this true)

max-players=20 (make this higher or lower depending on how many players you are expecting)

pvp=true (change this to false if you wish to deny any combat between players)

simulation-distance=10 (this affects how far from you entities can be loaded in) (Performance Impact = Medium)

view-distance=10 (this affects how many chunks ahead can load in per player) (Performance Impact = Heavy)

white-list=false (turn this to true if you'd like to specify who can join your server)

online-mode=true (if your server is targeting an audience using T-Launcher and cracked clients, turn this off)

motd=A Minecraft Server (change this to whatever you like, it is the description that shows up in the Multiplayer list in Minecraft)

After having finished the previous methods, you're ready to install some plugins!

Plugins are great to make gameplay easier, more fun, exciting, and different. Below is a list of plugins I recommend you use on your Server, as they possess lots of amazing and helpful features!

1. Essentials, this plugin adds a couple main features to the game: TPA, which allows players to teleport to one another. Homes, allows you to set a location you can always teleport back to. Gamemode shortcuts, say goodbye to /gamemode creative/survival/spectator, and say hello to /gmc, /gms, or /gmsp. Portable enderchest, with the command /ec you can open your enderchest from anywhere, at any time.

2. Playtime, allows you and your players to see their playtime on your server!

3. LuckPerms, an easy-to-use permissions configurator to have more control over your players and staff team.
